On this six track EP Zoltan pay tribute to two of their favourite soundtracks – Phantasm and Tanz der Vampire.

Don Coscarelli's Phantasm (1979) is a bizarre, eerie tale of a supernatural and malevolent undertaker who turns the dead into dwarf zombies, the better to do his bidding and take over the world. The progressive rock-inspired soundtrack, originally written and produced by Fred Myrow and Malcolm Seagrave, perfectly encapsulates the surreal visual undercurrents of the film.

Tanz der Vampire (better known as The Fearless Vampire Killers) was directed by Roman Polanski in 1967. While nominally a comedy, the hallucinatory feel of the set design and editing create something far stranger than that nomenclature would suggest. Longtime collaborator Krzysztof Komeda's jazz-based soundtrack only adds to the feeling of discombobulation; jaunty folk melodies are overlaid with spectral wails, atonality rubs shoulders with romantic waltzes and very rarely does it mesh seamlessly with the visuals, instead acting as a sardonic commentary on what we are watching. The whole thing comes across as doubly strange with the benefit of hindsight, as the lead actress is none other than soon-to-be victim of the Manson Family Sharon Tate, Polanski's wife at the time.

Zoltan's interpretations of these soundtracks use mellotron, Moogs and a deft rhythm section to both pay their respects and expand upon the originals.

it reminds me of progressive rock from the late 70s especially a lot like genesis and yes. Very talented musicians especially from a two piece lineup. Smart to scratch the movie scores and go with real tangible music. Heck of a good album great drumming excellent bass work and kick ass keyboards. You haven't heard it you need to Toecutter75
